Gorge
This photography project explores COLOR/SHAPE through the exploration of the body, using light and shadows to abstract and redefine it. This project aims to use the human subject as the site for an investigation of color and shape, changing both through the use of high contrast and colorful lighting. The name “Gorge” refers to the compliments I shout to them as they pose and explore, coming in and out of the light. But in French, it refers to the neck and collar bone area, a site of feminine exploration in this project. I think this perfectly matches with the body, as it too is a landscape and environment, ever-changing but in perfect harmony all the while. I experimented with a light I had where I lived, and these were shot in my kitchen. I was happy to create images that appear to have been made in a studio that in fact were not, it shows the possibilities of photography, and breaks the idea that only expensive equipment can create beautiful photographs.
